Title: LITERACY “Let’s talk about it… Oral Language and how it supports learning” PART ONE

This workshop is perfect for the occasional teacher who is either looking for a full-time job and needs to know what the full-time teachers are up to or for the career occasional who wants to keep up-to-date with the most current Literacy techniques that are being used in the classrooms.

Date: Wednesday April 18th, 2012

Time: 4:15pm to 6:15pm

This workshop is a MUST HAVE for those occasional teachers who are trying to get that full-time job and have little or no experience with the Board or in the classroom on a full-time basis and for the occasional teacher who wants to deliver their literacy lessons using up-to-date best practices.

Carol will talk about what the Board is currently focusing on and will help you understand how this will look in your classroom. She will also help you develop a great answer to the age old interview question, “What will a well balanced literacy program look like in your classroom?”.

TWO WORKSHOPS

Aboriginal Professional Learning for the Occasional Teacher

Date: Monday January 16th, 2012
Where: Victoria Park
Time: 4:15 – 6:15 pm (note: the room is booked until 4 pm, please try to show up no earlier than 4 pm)
Presenter: Dawn Aho, Aboriginal Education Resource Teacher for the LSB

Topics Covered:

This will be a multi-day workshop (future dates TBA dependent on interest) that will explore the new Initiatives that the Board is implementing with regards to First Nations, Metis and Inuit Culture. Come and learn about Cultures you may not know about. Information provided will be great for interviews and will help you integrate multiple cultures into your classrooms and daily teaching assignments.

Math Workshop

Learn what the LSB’s Math initiative is (great for interviews)
Discover a wealth of resources (a USB stick with all kinds of resources will be provided free of charge)
Learn Math Games that OT’s can use in the classroom
Take to the classroom practical techniques that are aligned with the Boards initiative
